Recovering Our Future: One Youth At A Time

*Abstract/Description of Event/Activity:
In celebration of National Alcohol and Drug Addicton Recovery Month, the California Association of Alcohol and Drug Program Executives (CAADPE), Inc.-Always Working towards Advancing Recovery Environments (AWARE) Program will be conducting conferences in Sacramento and Los Angeles. The AWARE program is funded by a grant provided by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Center for Substance Abuse Treatment.

Both Conferences will allow participants to meet, interact, and dialogue face to face with other substance abuse treatment program participants and local/state policy makers. The objectives of the conference are to identify and prioritize issues impacting substance abuse treatment and recovering communities. Both conference agendas reflect and incorporate recommendations received from consumers who utilize substance abuse treatment services throughout California.

Bridges to Recovery

*Abstract/Description of Event/Activity:
Santa Barbara Community Recovery Network is sponsoring a march in Santa Barbara. Participants will gather at Vera Cruz Park at 1:30 pm and march from the park to De La Guerra Plaza (in front of City Hall). Political candidates or their representatives will speak about what their plans are for addressing drug and alcohol problems and will be available for questions and answers at the end of their speech. A panel of recovering members will tell their stories. Two local groups will perform skits featuring recovery themes. The day will end with live entertainment. Soft drinks, water and energy bars will be available.

Recovery Month/San Francisco Community Forum

*Abstract/Description of Event/Activity:
The San Francisco Communtiy Forum will examine the impact of denial on continuing adolescent substance abuse; substance abuse among the homeless; and the connection between substance abuse and mental health, including bipolar disorders, and the most effective methods to address these problems. It will also discuss how Califronia is planning to invest money in youth treatment systems.
