*Title of Event/Activity: Recovering our Future- One Youth at a Time *Abstract/Description of Event/Activity: The Raleigh Community Forum and Youth Rally will provide an opportunity to learn about and comment on a number of current issues. These will include mentoring initiatives, new substance abuse insurance benefits, underage drinking, and adolescent drug courts. Emphasis will be placed on the need for expanded treatment for adolescents, including residential services. Speakers will include a recovering youth and a family member of a recovering youth. At the youth rally before the forum, participants will be able to obtain resource materials. A special feature will be the "Wall of Expression," which is a 500-Ft. banner upon which participants can share their success stories and concerns. Speakers for the Rally include the reigning Miss North Carolina - Lorna McNeill and the Media Director for the Partnership for a Drug Free North Carolina (PDFNC) - Rich Boswell. *Date(s) of the Event/Activity: Saturday, September 23, 9:30-11:00 - Youth Rally will be held on the Halifax Mall between the Education Building and the Legislative Building on Edenton St., Raleigh. Saturday, September 23, 11:30-12:30 - Community Forum will be held in the History Museum auditorium located at 5 E. Edenton St., Raleigh. *Who Should Participate: The target audiences will include youth, policymakers and health insurers, judges, health professionals who serve adolescents, schools and the education community, juvenile/criminal justice system, workplace/employers, community-based organizations serving youth, the faith community, the media, the medical community and, of course, parents and their families.
