It is no secret that substance abuse in the U.S. has reached epidemic proportions, so much so that it is often called our nation's number one public health problem. Estimates show that the costs associated with untreated addiction problems are substantial: $34.4 billion in unnecessary healthcare costs, $ 45.1 billion in new prisons and accidents, and $196.8 billion in lost earnings each year. This program will look at the costs to individuals and society and demonstrate how addiction treatment can dramatically reduce such problems.
