President of the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD), the oldest advocacy organization of its kind, Stacia Murphy has devoted 19 years to the issue of America's most widely abused drug, alcohol -- whether alone or in combination with other drugs. Founded in 1944, the NCADD has a network of 96 Affiliates in 27 States to carry the message of alcohol abuse awareness.

Prior to her appointment as president of the NCADD in 1999, Ms. Murphy served for 15 years as Executive Director of one of NCADD's oldest Affiliates, the Alcoholism Council of New York. Ms. Murphy is noted for her vision in areas including advocacy, intervention, prevention and policy. Also of significant note is her work in the criminal justice arena, where she has been a leader in calling attention to the dramatic impact of drug and alcohol abuse on crime rates. Prior to her involvement in the field of alcohol and drug abuse, Ms. Murphy for 19 years taught management and organizational development at The New School.
