Biography
Janet Wood Director, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division, Colorado Department of Human Services
Janet Wood is the Single State Agency Director for the State of Colorado in the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division, Colorado Department of Human Services. Ms. Wood has held that position since August 1997 and served as Acting Director from February 1997 through July 1997. Prior to her position as ADAD Director, she served as Director of Program Services for the Office of Health and Rehabilitation Services within the Colorado Department of Human Services. Her responsibilities included programmatic oversight of 4 divisions: Developmental Disabilities, Mental Health, Vocational Rehabilitation, and Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
From October 1990 through June 1994 Ms. Wood was Deputy Director of the Division for Developmental Disabilities and was responsible for the Program Development and Program Evaluation and Information Services Sections. From July 1978 through September, 1990 she was Executive Director of the Association for Retarded Citizens/Association for Community Living in Boulder County. The ARC/ACL is a non-profit advocacy organization for persons with developmental disabilities and their families.
Ms. Wood currently serves on a number of advisory committees and task forces. She currently is Chairperson of the Interagency Advisory Committee on Adult and Juvenile Correctional Treatment, a member of the National Dissemination Sub-Committee of the National Institute on Drug Abuse's Clinical Trials Network, a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee for the Rocky Mountain Node, a governor appointed member of the Justice Assistance Grant Advisory Board, and current Co-Chair of the Co-Occurring Advisory Committee for Substance Use and Mental Health Disorders. She was the former Chairperson of the Interagency Prevention Council (representatives of the seven state departments who fund prevention services in Colorado), Region VIII Director to the Board of the National Association of State Alcohol and Drug Abuse Directors, and Vice-President for Alcohol Issues.
Ms. Wood has a Master's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Colorado in Boulder, a Master's Degree in Education from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon, and a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She has 26 years experience in human services management, 14 of those years in state government.
