Dr. Robert J. Ackerman Director, Mid-Atlantic Addiction Training Institute
Dr. Robert Ackerman, founder and director of Mid-Atlantic Addiction Training Institute (MAATI), is one of the leading pioneers of the "children of alcoholics" field. He has written eight books on clinical issues facing alcoholic families, and recently published a trade book on battering and alcohol abuse for battered women and battered women's advocates, entitled Before It's Too Late. Dr. Ackerman lectures frequently to professional audiences on identifying and addressing the problems associated with families experiencing alcohol abuse. He is currently conducting teacher-training workshops across the country on high-risk children and resiliency as part of a U.S. Department of Education grant. Dr. Ackerman is a co-founder of the National Association for Children of Alcoholics and recipient of several awards and citations for his contributions to the field of alcohol and the family.
