Carolinas Conference on Addiction and Recovery  (4511)

11/07/2012 8:30 AM - 11/09/2012 4:00 PM

Transforming Lives hrough Transformed Providers is the title of this year's conference which will include William Cope Moyers as a keynote speaker. We are at an important crossroads in the field of addiction treatment and recovery. The decline of traditional
funding sources verses the increase in need for services; trying to understand what a Recovery Oriented System of Care means to local communities; dealing with an aging workforce and the need to develop new leadership; figuring out how to integrate new treatment
modalities that we know work into old models of care; how to keep our wits about us in the midst of change that seems, on the surface, to fly in the face of the person-centered care it espouses---all of these issues and more are confounding those of us who
feel called to serve individuals and families suffering from addictive diseases. There is good news, however. The recognition that we are in the recovery business and not the treatment business is exciting. It means we can focus on outcomes and not process.
It means clients improving under our care become the measure of our success. It is the natural extension of “person-centered care.”
