Program Agenda:
"Children of addicted parents are the highest risk group of children to become alcohol and drug abusers, 5 to 9 times more likely than other children." The El Paso & Teller Counties Alliance for Drug Endangered Children sees the critical need to reduce
the risk factors of abuse and other problem behaviors, not only for children of addicted parents but for ALL youth and children in our community. This key to this is increasing protective factors that buffer young people from risks. This forum explores the
premise that "The First Intervention Is Not the Last." Our care for drug endangered children must begin once substance use in the household is identified and should not end there. This care may begin in early childhood and most like carry through to their
adolescent years. Through targeted prevention, timely intervention and appropriate treatment, we can help our youth break the cycle of substance abuse and move toward their fullest potential to enjoy a life where inter-generational substance abuse is halted.
We will explore some of the areas our youth will gain the most benefit through the support of professionals, their own families and the community in which they live.
