UPDATE: On Thursday September 19th, CJRC was pleased to host the Durham Recovery Celebration at our main location, 326 E. Main St. Prior to this event, CJRC was invited to receive a Proclamation from the Durham County Commissioners on 8-26-13, proclaiming
their support for mental health and substance abuse recovery in Durham. The event started at 12 noon and, over the course of seven hours, guests were entertained by 20 self-help recovery speakers, 4 poets, 2 healthy food demonstrations, 6 line dancing and
3 zumba sessions, a by-stander CPR demonstration, live music, ongoing health screenings, a children’s activities table, a youth network table to engage young people, and an information/resource table staffed by many of the 26 different agencies and organizations
participating in the event. There was also a Recovery Poster contest judged by those in attendance and, through the generosity of local community businesses, we were able to award door prizes every half hour thoughout the event. It is estimated that about
300 people attended for some period of time during the seven hours. Feedback from Providers and participants was extremely positive.
