Xavier University Recovery Week  (5707)

09/09/2013 9:00 AM - 09/13/2013 5:00 PM

Recovery Month is an annual observance to create awareness about behavioral health, prevention, and treatment. This initiative helps to destigimatize behavioral health to giving voice to millions of people each year who cope with behavioral health and
substance use disorders. Recovery Month highlights that holistic treatment is effective. Furthermore, it gives hope that people can and will recover if we continue to work together to unite our voices to spread awarneess about behavioral health year round.
Recovery Month has allowed Xavier University to have recovery day on campus to provide students with educational materials, poster displays, community agencies, substance abuse facts vs. myth quizzes, brochures, and booklets to educate the larger campus. Furthemore,
numerous students serve as peer educators and work with local substance abuse agencies to help the larger metropolitan area of New Orleans. Recovery Month has extended into training for the residential hall managers and resident assistants on substance abuse
awareness. Behavioral health is part of numerous campus wellness activities like Wellness Week, Wellness Awareness Day, and Employee Health & Fitness Day.
