On Sept. 28, about 250 people gathered at Lakebottom Park to celebrate victory over addiction. The group consisted of recovering addicts, their families, rehab professionals and representatives from the law enforcement community. They called themselves Columbus United in Recovery and vowed to break the chains of marijuana, alcohol, cocaine, crack, methamphetamine, prescription drugs and other unhealthy substance addictions. The event was held in observation of National Recovery Month. Read more here: http://www.ledger-enquirer.com/2013/10/24/2761151/low-income-drug-addicts-struggle.html#storylink=cpy
NOPE Task Force lights up the night to remember those lost to and suffering from the disease of addiction. Many lives have been destroyed by substance abuse and the disease of addiction. Too often, this disease is perceived as deserved and shameful, leaving families to grieve in silence, or an addict struggling to recover alone. The NOPE Vigil strives to raise awareness and open the doors to recovery by eliminating the prejudice that follows the disease of addiction. The vigil is held in memory of the 30,000 United States citizens who die from accidental drug poisonings each year. Please join us for this special event honoring those whose lives have been lost, while giving hope to those who are still on the road to recovery.
