Recovery Month is an annual observance to create awareness about behavioral health, prevention, and treatment.
This initiative helps to destigimatize behavioral health to giving voice to millions of people each year who cope with behavioral health and substance use disorders. Recovery Month highlights that holistic treatment is effective. Furthermore, it gives hope that people can and will recover if we continue to work together to unite our voices to
spread awarneess about behavioral health year round.
Recovery Month has allowed Xavier University to have recovery day on campus to provide students with
educational materials, poster displays, community agencies, substance abuse facts vs. myth quizzes, brochures, and booklets to educate the larger campus. Furthemore, numerous students serve as peer educators and work with local substance abuse agencies to help the larger metropolitan area of New Orleans.
Recovery Month has extended into training for the residential hall managers and resident assistants on substance abuse awareness. Behavioral health
is part of numerous campus wellness activities like Wellness Week, Wellness Awareness Day, and Employee
Health & Fitness Day.

CRC - Baton Rouge Treatment Center - we have incorporated the path to recovery poster in our group activities. Patients are also participating on the writing-on-the-wall activity as a dictation of recovery testimonies. Some stable patients will write a letter to the newer patients discussing what they were doing before treatment, the goals they have accomplished and how they accomplished those goals without including any personal information with consideration that letter will be published at the clinic. Also, we will have a guest speaker for the recovery day, breakfast, live music and gifts.
