There will be a poster at each of our three Youth and Family Service locations, prominently displayed in each lobby. All visitors will be encouraged to write their thoughts, pictures and drawings to display on the board and add their suppport to the voices for recovery.

On Labor Day, hundreds of Oregon and Washington residents will celebrate recovery from alcohol and drug addiction when they join hands to span the Interstate 5 Bridge connecting the states of Washington and Oregon. The Twelfth annual Hands Across the Bridge event, set for 10 to noon on Monday, Sept. 2nd, with ceremonies on both the Vancouver and Portland sides of the Columbia, kicks off National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month. Last years event drew almost 3000 participants whose lives had been touched by addiction and recovery.

In celebration of National Recovery Month and World Suicide Prevention day, Lifeline Connections hosed an ice cream social. All county employees and clients visiting the building were treated to ice cream sundaes including all the toppings.

King County is sponsoring a recovery and resiliency conference, "Together on Pathways to Wellness." The themes for this conference are wellness, skill building and resiliency. There will be exhibitor tables, break-out sessions, 30-40 presentations and two keynote speakers. Persons in recovery who exprience mental health and/or substance use challenges, persons who work in the behavioral health community who participate in services as well as parents of children who are enrolled in services in King County are welcome to attend. Each attendee will be provided information that will enhance their own strengths and resiliencies and create a wellness culture.

The Recovery Support Summit brings together individuals in recovery and community partners interested in improving recovery support services.
Our agenda will include breakout sessions for clinicians and the recovering community. We will also be showing the feature documentary film by Greg Williams, The Anonymous People about the 23.5 million Americans living in long-term recovery from alcohol and other drug addiction.

Celebration of National Recovery Month

In recognition of National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month, Clark County’s Substance Abuse Advisory Board will host the 12th Annual Clark County Recovery Forum on Friday, September 20, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Crossroads Community Church. There will be resource exhibits from 5:00pm-8:00pm, free musical entertainment, food & beverages from 5:30pm-6:30pm (or while supplies last), and the forum will be from 6:00pm-8:00pm. This energy-filled event celebrates Clark County residents who have been affected by addiction and have made steps toward long-term recovery. Organizers hope that by bringing together individuals, affected families and treatment providers, the celebration will encourage others toward recovery. The forum is an opportunity for the community to learn about the realities and challenges of helping another person into the recovery process and about local resources that make recovery possible. Transporation will be available upon request from the Lord’s Gym/New Life Friends Church and Westfield (Vancouver) Mall to/from Crossroads Community Church. This event recognizes the extraordinary achievements by individuals and programs providing public mental health and/or substance abuse services, and individuals in the community who are advocates for behavioral health and recovery populations. Award categories include Advocacy/Social Inclusion, Direct Service, Service Innovation, Systems Integration and Peer-to-Peer Support. Honorees are nominated by the community and selected by King County. Winners of the consumer poetry and poster contests will also be recognized, and will display their work. City Proclamations for Recovery Month will also be on display.

This will be a walk around all or parts of Lake Sacajawea in Longview, Wahington. There will be about 20 different agencies in booths handing out materials and information that support and provide services for people and families who struggle with addiction and mental illness.
