May 10 is Military Spouse Appreciation Day
Friday, May 10, is Military Spouse Appreciation Day. In 1984, President Ronald Reagan created Military Spouse Appreciation Day as a way to recognize and honor the important role military families play in the health and well-being of America’s soldiers. The demands placed on spouses and family members of those in our Armed Forces are great and the sacrifices are heavy.
America’s military men and women are placed in harm’s way, asked to deploy on a moment’s notice, and are required to move their families from base to base around the country and often around the globe. Family members in turn, uproot their lives and leave their friends, jobs, communities, schools, and places of worship behind and move to yet another unknown and unfamiliar location. Husbands and wives, daughters and sons, mothers, fathers, grandparents and siblings spend long days and nights worrying about their loved ones, celebrating milestones without them, and missing them endlessly.
