TENS OF THOUSANDS RALLY FOR RECOVERY! on SEPTEMBER 21, 2013

Celebrations in Providence, RI, Philadelphia, PA, and Oklahoma City, OK to be streamed live, call for support for people seeking or in addiction recovery

(Washington, DC, September 16, 2013) – Tens of thousands of people will speak out, march, run and walk as part of Rally for Recovery! on Saturday, September 21st during the 24th annual Recovery Month observances. From Providence, RI to Philadelphia, PA, people in recovery, their families, friends and allies will put a face and a voice to recovery from addiction. Over 20,000 people are expected in Philadelphia. Rallies that took place earlier in the month in Vancouver, Canada; Richmond, VA and Columbus, OH will be available for viewing on demand along with live coverage from rallies on September 21, 2013 at http://www.facesandvoicesofrecovery.org.

Rhode Island’s Rally4Recovery in Providence will serve as this year’s national “hub” for activities happening across the U.S. The event has attracted national, state, and local dignitaries, including former Congressman Patrick Kennedy, Grand Marshall for the rally.  Over 8,000 people are expected to attend. They will call for improved policies so that others can get the help they need to recover and prepare rally goers to enroll in health insurance with a campaign, “Get Ready, Get Set, Enroll October 1st.”  Addiction care is one of the mandated benefits under the Affordable Care Act.

“Over 23 million Americans are in long-term recovery from addiction, benefiting themselves, their families and communities,” said Dona Dmitrovic, Chair of Faces & Voices of Recovery Board of Directors. “We thank everyone who’s standing up for recovery, offering hope and opportunity for people who still need help to recover.” Faces & Voices of Recovery is the national organization coordinating Rally for Recovery! events during September, National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month.

Since its beginning in 2007, the annual Rally for Recovery! has grown from 30,000 participants to over 100,000 in 2012. This year, for the seventh annual Rally for Recovery!, participants nationwide will be encouraged to participate as individuals in our nation’s civic life through voter registration and education; educating elected officials about how recovery saves health care dollars and why recovery is important to them; and celebrating their growing visibility. They will be joined by a vast array of celebrities, public officials, law enforcement officers and other allies.
