FEATURED CASE STUDY

New Facebook Program to Help Prevent Suicide

New Facebook Program to Help Prevent Suicide In December, Facebook launched a new feature in partnership with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and SAMHSA to help prevent suicides among distressed users of the social networking site.

Facebook recognized that support from a friend can be instrumental in getting a person the help that he or she needs. The program allows friends of a distressed Facebook user to report the users' expressed suicidal thoughts by clicking the Report Suicidal Content link or using Facebook's report links. The distressed user will then receive an e-mail from Facebook, directing them to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, 1-800-273-TALK (8255), or a link to begin an instant, confidential chat with a trained crisis representative.

TIPS OF THE MONTH

January's tips outline how to build a high-quality blog. For more information, read the full Mashable article):
1 Turn Existing Customers into Readers. Encourage your constituents, who are already familiar and happy with your organization, to subscribe to your blog.

2 Skip Misleading Techniques that Claim to Increase Traffic. The best way to drive traffic to your blog and encourage readership is to be descriptive and clear when writing headlines.

3 Speak to a Very Specific Audience. Target a relevant niche audience to connect with them more effectively.

4 Author Guest Posts and Use Guest Bloggers. Guest posting on other niche blogs can help attract new readers to your own blog. Also, give guest bloggers an opportunity to provide content to your blog, and they will bring their own followers to the post they've written.

4 Be Consistent, Timely, and Relevant. Be consistent in how frequently you post on your blog to help build loyalty. Ensure that your content is timely and relevant so that a reader feels they can easily share it with others.
