Read Personal Stories

Review the personal stories of people recovering from mental and/or substance use disorders.

These personal stories share strategies individuals have used to overcome obstacles and achieve success with their recovery efforts.

Just the other day someone came in asking for the girl on the other side of the phone. And that's when I knew I'd made a difference.
And now I'm suddenly starting to see who I am and I'm beginning to form my identity. I have real friends now and I'm finally just becoming myself.
I thought I was too far-gone, but that wasn't the case. I'm just very thankful to be here today.
Talk to people -- there's always somebody around. I just know that I can't drink safely anymore.
Today I'm all about recovery.
Whether they're scared, happy, crying, sad -- I give them a hug if they need a hug, if they let me.
I look back and it amazes me. I'm thinking like, I never thought I'd have the courage or the hope to actually become somebody that helps somebody else in recovery.
My parents talked to me and my son gave me a hug the other day and he's actually proud of me. It's something I never thought I'd be able to see happen to me in a million years.
